The City is Alive

In this photo essay I wanted to explore the way in which the city and body relate and interact. Although made of steel and concrete, the city seems to pulse with energy, emotion, beauty, and sometimes hostility. Like cells in a body, the city’s many inhabitants work separately to create a collective existence that is both alluring and unforgiving. Overlaying images of the city with images of the body, I juxtaposed the structural differences in the two, while highlighting how in many ways they are one in the same. A body functions like a miniature city, with cells and complex emotions. And a city can be personified as a person, a breathing, emotional being.
